Why the New York Knicks are embarrassing

Pittstop cannot believe that after 30 years of Knicks games, and nearly $10 million spent on season tickets, Spike Lee, the famous Oscar-winning movie director, who directed one of my favorite movies: BlacKkKlansman, wasn’t allowed entry to a Knicks game through the employees’ entrance at Madison Square Garden (MSG) that he has used for nearly three decades. So on March 2nd 2020, this past Monday, why didn’t the Knicks organization allow him to enter through that entrance after him doing so all this time? Spike Lee went on ESPN’s First Take and said that no one notified him of this “new policy change” that the Knicks claimed went into effect which prevented him from going through that specific entrance. On top of that, the Knicks put a statement out, essentially blaming Spike for this, and that he is lying about what he claims happened that night. One part of the statement that seemed to really tick off Spike on First Take was: “ He is welcome to come to the Garden anytime via the VIP or general entrance; just not through our employee entrance, which is what he and [James Dolan, the Knicks owner] agreed to last night when they shook hands.” Spike swore on his mother that they never shook hands, in fact, he claims when Dolan approached him during halftime of that game, Spike kept to his seat, with his hands crossed, and never agreed to use a new entrance.

The New York Knicks record currently is 19-43, good for 13th in the Eastern Conference, which is just horrible. So why would they cause all this commotion with their number one supporter in Spike who rocks Knicks gear a lot and is basically promoting the team for free wherever he goes? This is not helping the Knicks at all, especially since after this scandal got more press coverage, only 16,588 people attended the Knicks game versus the Jazz this past Wednesday in which they lost (of course), and that was the arena’s smallest home crowd in nearly 14 years. I think that there is no reason for Spike to lie about this situation, and it seems to me like the Knicks are trying to cover their actions by blaming Spike.

Pittstop believes this is yet again a bad news situation for the Knicks, and puts them in a position where no free agents will want to come play in New York. Not only due to this, but the Charles Oakley incident, the fact that the Knicks have not had a winning season in god knows how long, and lots of fans calling for James Dolan to sell the team due to his stinginess and incompetence as a team owner. This is the reason why the Knicks will continue to be at the bottom of the NBA for a while. Their management team is always in the news for the wrong reasons, and it clearly affects the players on the team, based on their record this year, and in years past.
